Mother’s Day Story: Struggle of Anna Jarvis

A loving daughter from West Virginia, Anna Jarvis is recognised as a ‘Founder of Mothers Day’ and ‘Mother of Mothers Day’. Anna kept the word of her activist mother, Mrs Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis who once expressed a wish that someone should strive to provide mothers their due recognition. After her mothers death in 1905, Anna’s determination became strong and she along with several supporters started lobbying for the official holiday on Mothers Day by writing letters to the people in power. To celebrate Mothers Day, Anna began to send her mothers favorite flowers, carnations in her local church requesting people to wear them in honor of their mothers. The idea gained immense popularity over the years and in 1910, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mothers Day holiday. On May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers all around the world!

Egotism - Retaliation

Since the Manila hostage crisisChinese nationals seem to have played up their fury against us. First, the Spratly island, now, Scarborough Shoal (and there’s the rumor on American Idol’s Finalist, Jessica Sanchez’s “real” origins).

These entities have been there hundreds or even thousands of years yet never has a single heated issue been brought up. So why now?

Let’s face the fact! It’s not actually a question on territorial rights or sovereignty. Both nations are resourcefully abundant in their own accord so why battle over these small piece of lands when they can just settle on more relevant societal issues? Don’t they have better things to do?

It’s disappointing to realize that even in the midst of recession and growing environmental problems our governments still find ample of time to dig more dirt and act immaturely. Is it really that hard to put aside grudge momentarily and clear out misunderstandings in a peaceful way? The people would also like to put their minds at ease. Not that we will have to carry the  burdens of the world while dealing with our own personal demons. That’s a lot to handle.

I know it will take time but hopefully everything will be resolved before we lose faith on things we once thought were worth the life-long sacrifice.

Fairness is what justice really is.

Lapu Lapu City

My cousin and I decided to visit  Lapu Lapu City in Mactan, Cebu, earlier this afternoon. Our intentions were to light candles and offer prayers to the Birhen ng Regla or Virgen de la Regla at the Lapu Lapu Parish Church. We didn’t planned to stay long but instead of heeding back to Mandaue City straightaway, we got hooked up picture-taking - from statues of saints to ourselves. Undeniably vain and truly, our fascination with “the self” is not only limited to the enclosures of a room.:D

Anyhow, my stomach churned and I had a sudden craving for coffee float. Eventually, we were strolling the busy street of S. Osmena in search of a large red and yellow striped bee(JOLLIBEE). It was our first time to step into the trade center of Lapu Lapu so we were hesitant to roam the vicinity for chances of us getting lost.

But still, off we went!

Like kids, the urge to giggle in the middle of a crowd came naturally as we excitedly hurried up towards the place where we spotted the smiling bee. We ordered more than we could consume! Khesy (my cousin) texted Ate Che (my other older cousin) to meet with us there. After the much chismisan and catching up, Ate Che suggested that we go to the plaza together with her work-friend Lumen. Again, we got engaged in our inner artsy side. Taking pictures here and there while ogling at couples in the benches.

It was so much fun!

Tap Tap Tap

It has been a while since I’ve started receiving notifications regarding MyCalendar - Birthdays. It’s an application on Facebook that keeps you updated on who’s birthday’s coming up, let’s you send advance greeting cards etc. Now, for you to access the said application, first you will have to choose whom to add in your calendar. As for me, I don’t want to make it by random so I decided to choose all of my Facebook friends. Problem is, I got 2182 of them and they don’t have a “mark all” option in the selection area.

Oh well, I’ve been tapping for over 3 minutes now. Hopefully, the sun won’t show up with me still tapping. :D
